Hello, Stingray families!
I’m Moira Aardahl (pronounced"More-uh Are-doll"). I teach English/Language Arts to my wonderful 6th grade students at GMS! Each school day provides me the opportunity to show my students how I care about them as learners and individuals.
I started teaching in 2005, and I have taught at the middle school level for most of my career. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with an endorsement in English/Language Arts from Northwest University. After teaching for several years, I earned my Professional Teaching certificate through Seattle Pacific University. I am certified to teach grades 6-12, and I find it especially rewarding to give middle school students enriching learning experiences within our class community.
I spent most of my life in Washington state, but this is the start of my second year in North Carolina. I am proud to call NC--and Githens--home! Although there is so much to love about NC (like the sunshine, mountains, and beaches), it is truly the people here that make this state fantastic! I am privileged to work with such competent and caring colleagues, and of course, my amazing group of Stingrays!
Here are a few things about me personally. I love my family, and spending time with my two daughters is THE BEST! I am crazy for card and board games. My favorite beverages are seltzer water, unsweetened iced tea, and coffee. This summer, I spent a TON of time outside. I love to walk and bike around my neighborhood. Seeing a bunny, turtle, or deer while out and about always makes me smile. I'm a big fan of having my classroom smell lovely (lavender and peppermint are my go-to scents). I enjoy finding the humor in life, which is definitely an important quality to hold as a teacher. Who doesn't like to laugh? :)
I look forward to helping my Stingray students grow in their academic abilities and confidence! Thank you for your support as we work together to make this unconventional year an INCREDIBLE year!
-Ms. Aardahl
